Hive Count Reports Due – Jan. 2, 2018

Beekeepers must file a hive count report with their local USDA Farm Assistance office by Jan. 2, 2018 in order to be eligible for assistance from the Federal Emergency Loss Assistance Program (ELAP). ELAP is authorized under the 2014 Farm Bill (Agricultural Assistance Act of 2014).

ELAP to provides emergency assistance to eligible producers of livestock, honeybees and farm-raised fish. This program covers losses due to an eligible adverse weather or loss condition, including blizzards and wildfires. For beekeepers, ELAP provides assistance for the loss of hives in excess of normal mortality. The program also covers damage to hives and feed.
