As you may know, the Honey Bee Health Coalition was formed in June 2014 to collaboratively implement solutions to support healthy honey bees. The Coalition includes beekeepers, crop producers, agribusinesses, food companies, NGOs, agencies and more working together as an agricultural community to improve bee health. Recognizing the multifactorial nature of bee health decline, we formed working groups for forage and nutrition, crop pest control, and hive management. We’re making progress in all of these areas (see www.honeybeehealthcoalition.org).
In our Hive Management Working Group we have created a set of free resources for beekeepers to use to improve the health of their hives. These include:
- Our Varroa Guide and varroa videos that demonstrate how to test and treat
- Powerpoint slides for bee clubs
- A broader clearing house of information that direct beekeepers around the web to well vetted info regarding beekeeping instructional videos, bee nutrition, other pests and diseases, and info on pesticides and bees.
We recognize that leaders of beekeeping, bee research and bee health have the greatest ability to spread the ‘test and treat’ message as well as get the word out that all these free resources exist in one central place. That’s where you come in. We’d like to invite you to a brief webinar on Monday, April 16 at Noon CDT, to hear about the resources that we’ve created and to ask that you help us get them into the hands of beekeepers.
