The Kentucky State Beekeepers Association is in need of a volunteer to act as Legislative Agent for the association. The agent monitors any actions pending in the Kentucky General Assembly that could impact beekeepers and keeps the KSBA informed. On occasions, the agent may contact legislators to seek legislative action or insure that legislators are aware of how pending matters may affect beekeepers. There are websites and informational tracking tools that assist the agent in awareness of these matters.
The Kentucky State Beekeepers Association Legislative Agent is required to register with the Legislative Research Commission (a simple matter) and to file periodic reports with Legislative Research Commission concerning matters lobbied and on any expenditures made in lobbing. At the beginning of each session, Legislative Research Commission presents a training program on the agent duties and responsibilities. That program is extremely helpful.
Although this is a volunteer position, KSBA will reimburse the agent for any expenditures, including the registration fee.
The retiring agent, George Fowler, is available to answer questions at 502-472-4640.
If interested in the position, please contact Mike Mabry, KSBA President.
